Chhendipada: A farmer was critically injured and his son died after their bullock cart was hit by a truck on National Highway 63 – the Chhendiapada-Sarpal-Angul stretch – at Gurudisahi near Mamuria village in Angul district. The two were on the way to their farm Monday morning.
The deceased was Yudhistir Dehuri (25), son of Raghunath Dehuri. The father was rushed to the district hospital (DHH). The two bullocks were also injured. The father and the son were taking cow dung for use in their farm. The two were admitted to the Chhendipada government hospital where Yudhistir died. Raghunath was referred to the SCB in Cuttack for special treatment.
Locals staged a road blockade and sought compensation to the family. IIC Nirmala Gochayat, SI Ranjan Kumar Sahu and Tehsildar Pratap Pritimayee reached the spot and brought the situation under control. The locals relented after officials promised free treatment for Raghunath and a cash compensation to the family as per government norms. A hunt was on to nab the absconding truck driver, police said.
