Farmers’ agitation: Govt forms inter-ministerial committee to discuss demands

Bhubaneswar: In order to look into the various issues and demands of the agitating farmers, government Monday formed an Inter-Ministerial Committee under the chairmanship of the State Finance Minister.

The Agriculture and Panchayati Raj Minister and Cooperation Minister were among the members of the committee. This was informed by Finance Minister Sashi Bhusan Behera.

“An Inter-Ministerial Committee comprising Agriculture and Panchayati Raj Minister and Cooperative Minister has been formed under the chairmanship of Finance Minister to prepare terms of reference to discuss the demands of farmers,” Behera said.

“Our Government has consistently been proactive for cause of the farmers and development of agriculture in the state. In fact we are one of the first States to have an exclusive budget for agriculture and farmers empowerment,” he further added.

He also stated that the State Government is providing loans at one percent interest for farmers and our irrigation budget has had the maximum growth in the last 10 years.

“Our Government stands committed to the cause of the farmers’ welfare,” the Odisha Finance Minister assured as he urged the agitating farmers to come forward for a discussion.
