Paradip: Hundreds of farmers under the banner of the Krushak Ekata Manch Thursday blocked a stretch between Paradip refinery and Rangiagada bridge here in Jagatsinghpur district seeking jobs in the refinery.
The agitators have been demanding permanent jobs in the refinery for the kin of the landless farmers’ families.
“We have been demanding engagement for landless farmers’ families in Paradip refinery for a long time. Though the district administration and the refinery authorities promised to look into the matter, they failed to carry out their commitment. We have no other option but to hit the streets for the fulfillment of our demands,” said agitating farmers.
Earlier, a meeting was held at the office of the additional district magistrate and the families who had given away their lands for the project were promised jobs in a phased manner, it was learnt.
However, none from the families of land-losers were absorbed in the company, alleged a protestor.
