Farmers hail KALIA, also seek irrigation facility

Puri: Farmers who gathered near Malatipatpur in Puri district for the launch of BJD’s KALIA scheme, have welcomed it but also sought irrigation facility from the government for their land.
Kashinath Harijana (53), a native of Sirshi village in Nabarangpur district, lauded the scheme as he hoped to get assistance for his two-acre land. He requested the government to look into irrigation facilities for farmers. Shankarshan Barik (60) of Madhipur village in Keonjhar district had a similar request to the government.
Jaykrushna Parida (58) of Khairia in Balasore district also hailed the KALIA scheme and requested the government to take steps to prevent his paddy field from floods.
Laximidhar Jena (45) from Chandanpur of Puri district felt that the scheme would be useful for landless farmers like him. He also requested the government for proper irrigation facilities which would ensure that all cultivable lands will be used during Rabi season.
Sonu Sahu from Angul district also made a similar request to the government. The farmer said he would invest some money ,in addition to the KALIA benefit, for digging a borewell in his land for irrigation purposes. Another farmer from Mudhibahal area in Sambalpur district, Prabhakar Deep (58), said that the KALIA scheme would help him repay his personal loan but the lack of irrigation options is something the Government should look into.
