Bargarh: Transactions at PSU banks, cooperative societies and insurance offices were completely paralaysed across Bargarh district Wednesday when farmers staged protests, demanding compensation for the crop loss they suffered last year due to pest attack and drought.
Customers had a tough time when transactions could not be carried out at braches of HDFC Bank, State Bank of India, cooperative and other banks and insurance offices.
Raising the banner of protest under Bargarh Zilla Chasi Sangathan Samanwaya Samiti, thousands of farmers took out rallies and locked gates of several nationalized, private sector and cooperative banks as well as insurance offices. Agitating farmers staged protests at Padmapur, Paikamal, Attabira, Bheden and other blocks in the district.
