Basudevpur: Over a host of problems faced by farmers in Basudevpur block of Bhadrak district, members of Akhil Bharat Krushak Sabha (ABKS) took out a protest rally to the tehsil office Thursday. Later they held a sit-in protest.
The activists of ABKS demanded implementation of recommendations made by the Swaminathan Commission. “There is need to identify farmers and sharecroppers by the village committees while the government should take expeditious steps to pay compensation to the farmers affected by unseasonal rains in the kharif season,” the ABKS said.
They demanded raising the paddy MSP from Rs 1,750 to Rs 3,000 per quintal and waiver of farm loans.
“The administration should take steps to remove prawn gherries in river Mantei while farmers in 16 panchayats along the river should be provided farm incentives and there is need for irrigation of farmlands in the area from Ranital canal,” they said.
The protest meeting was presided over by president of ABKS (Basudevpur) Narayan Prasad Jena. A delegation of ABKS submitted a memorandum to the tehsildar.
