Farmers threat DPCL of rail roko stir

Tihidi: Farmers in the Tihidi area of Bhadrak, whose lands were acquired for construction of Dhamra Port by the Dhamra Port Company Limited (DPCL), alleged that the port authorities have not paid them adequate compensation. Promises made by the company have not been fulfilled, they said.

The farmers belonging to the Bhadrak-Dhamra Krushak Manch Seva Samiti warned of a rail roko if their demands were not met in the next 15 days.

The farmers had held a meeting on the issue Monday and decided on a stir. They have informed this to the Collector, the SP, the Tehsildar and the authorities of the Dhamra Port Company Limited (DPCL).

Farmers said as they had not been provided proper compensation for their land, they have filed a case against DPCL at the Bhadrak Sub-Judge Court.

But the case is not getting adjudicated due to the non-cooperation of DPCL and the district administration, they said.

The farmers said that pasture, cremation and jungle land were acquired for the railway project. It was decided at a district-level meeting that alternative land would be provided, but the decision has not been implemented, they added.

DPCL had also promised to hire one individual from all the families who lost land, but that has not been done, they said.
