BHUBANESWAR: In line with the trending of men’s handloom products, a special fashion show titled ‘Handloom Era collection by Vooz’ was organised at KIIT auditorium here Wednesday.
The charm of handloom products in general and apparel in particular is a thing to cherish. Odia handloom products have carved a niche in the country since the medieval age. It may be noted that the state’s handlooms are famous for their colour, designs and motifs.
This hand-woven fabric is replete with generic motifs like flower, tree, wheel, fish and religious symbols like conch. The final products are unique creations – aesthetic yet functional. The cost of such products is high due to the production being a labour-intensive work demanding great skills and the cost of the fabric being high.
However, the popularity of men’s handloom clothes is new to this generation of fashionistas. Youngsters are generally averse to the idea of donning handloom clothes as it bears the look of an old man. This is coupled with stale design which hasn’t changed for a long time.
Keeping this in mind, Vooza Designing House have come up with a new collection with unique detailing and silhouettes. Designer Vishwat Sen along with his teammates Surbhi Shukla and Sneha Suman has attempted to create designs that would catch the eyes of youngsters.
The collection stole the show. Interestingly, RAAS another boutique, also designs handloom men’s wear where one can find designer waist coats and handloom shirts. One can also find Handloom men’s wear by Puravi Mishra at her store ‘U Funky’.
Interacting with Orissa Post, designer Vishwat Sen said, “Handloom is classic and it would never go out of vogue. Therefore, I along with my team have created ‘Handloom Era Collection for Men’ which is slowly but steadily catching the pulse of the youth.”
“We live in times when every individual wants to go for western wears. I am trying to allure male clients with handloom shirts, kurtas, jackets and waist coats. Handloom men’s wear will definitely give a boost to the handloom market as well as to the designers who are engaged in handloom works,” he added.
In line with the trend, the finale of Odisha Supermodel was also organised at the same site. Nehal Chudasama was the chief judge along with Asmita Panda. Around 150 models participated and only 24 were selected for the finale. The titles were clinched by Aniket Mohanty and Shefali Udgata.
