Fatalities dip even as infection among children continues to remain high

Bhubaneswar: Covid-19 infections among children below 18 years continue to remain high in Odisha with 118 testing positive for the disease in the last 24 hours. In the same time period, a total of 681 new cases of Covid-19 were reported from the state. The new infections took the tally of infected people in the state to 10,10,753 while the current active caseload now stands at 7,186.

Among the new cases, 398 were reported from quarantine centres while 283 persons contracted the virus locally. The state had registered 849 cases of coronavirus infections Friday.

Odisha also reported five (05) new fatalities in the last 24 hours taking total tally in the state to 8,040 as per a tweet of Health and Family Welfare department. The state had reported seven (07) Covid-19 fatalities Friday. The victims were from Bhadrak, Cuttack, Kendrapara, Khurda and Nabarangpur districts.

Khurda district registered the highest number of new cases with 222 persons testing positive for the disease. It was followed by Cuttack with 101 new infections.

Other districts that reported fresh Covid-19 cases are: Balasore (34), Jajpur (33), Mayurbhanj (27), Puri (26), Sundargarh (20), Dhenkanal and Jagatsinghpur (19 each), Angul (18), Bargarh (14), Ganjam (13), Keonjhar, Nayagarh and Sambalpur (10 each), Bhadrak, Deogarh and Kendrapara (nine each), Subarnapur (six), Jharsuguda and Rayagada (five each), Kalahandi (four), Boudh, Koraput and Malkangiri (three each) and Nabarangpur (one).

The State Pool reported 48 new cases. These are persons who have come from outside Odisha and have tested positive.

A total of 1,83,39,452 swab samples have been cumulatively tested so far. The number of recoveries in the last 24 hours stands at 835.
