Udala: In a heart-wrenching incident, a man and his 10-year-old son met with their watery grave while the duo had gone to take bath in Sono river. The incident occurred near Nagabandi area of ward-6 in Udala NAC under Mayurbhanj district, Saturday.
Locals informed that Bhawani Shankar Patra — a teacher — along with his wife and son Bhagiranjan had gone for a bath in Jirida ghat of Sono river as there was no water supply at home due to power outage.
However, the boy was somehow swept into deep water while taking his bath. In bid to rescue him, Bhawani also jumped into the water. Unfortunately, both failed to come out and were swept into even deeper waters. Hearing the scream of the boy’s mother, locals rushed to the spot and tried to save the two but in vain.
Fire Services personnel reached the area on being informed and fished out the bodies of the two and sent them to hospital where doctors confirmed their death.
The incident has created a pall of gloom in the area. Police registered a case of unnatural death and handed over the bodies to family members after autopsy.
