Angul: The fear of organs getting removed from bodies in the mortuary continues to haunt Angul district headquarters hospital (DHH) here as employees are reluctant to allow bodies inside the morgue at night.
The relatives of a number of deceased patients in the recent past were seen keeping the bodies on the hospital verandah and watching over all through the night.
According to a source, Subash Naik of Girang village under Nalco police limits consumed poison Friday night and was admitted at the DHH. He died while undergoing treatment. Similarly, Ganga Senapati, who was injured in a road mishap at Dadaraghat in Dhenkanal district, breathed his last while under treatment at the hospital.
However, the staff of the hospital kept the bodies on the verandah, instead of keeping them in mortuary. Despite vehement objection of the family of the deceased, the hospital employees were not cooperative.
Left with no choice, the family members spent the whole night sitting awake near the bodies.
When contacted, additional district medical officer Laxmi Narayan Bisoi said, “It is the duty of the police to take the bodies to the mortuary. I have no idea as to why they had not kept the bodies there.”
