Female co-worker accuses lecturers of harassment, torture

Ranpur: A woman employee of Ranpur College in Nayagarh district accused two lecturers of harassment and physical and mental torture.

Leveling allegations against the two lecturers, the victim, a junior clerk-cum-typist in the college, lodged a written complaint with the local police in this connection. The two teachers have been identified as Harekrushna Mohapatra and Chandrakant Paikray.

In her complaint, the victim accused the two of interfering in her work and unnecessarily harassing her. She accused the two of spreading false rumours against her and giving her excess workload. The accused also passed lewd comments on her, she alleged. She also accused the principal of the college of not taking any action against the two despite repeated complaints with him.

Based on a complaint by the victim, police registered a case and launched a probe.

“After repeated torture, I had filed a written complaint with the principal. Seven days have passed but no steps have been taken against the accused. So, I finally decided to knock the doors of police station. I want justice and the two teachers should be punished as per law,” said the victim.

When contacted, college principal Subash Chandra Barik said he had referred the matter to the anti-sexual harassment committee and asked it to submit a report on this so that necessary action could be taken.

“After getting the complaint from the victim, I had asked the committee to probe the matter and submit a report. I have not got any report yet,” Barik said.

“We have registered a case (case no- 168) under sections 354, 354 (1) of IPC. Further investigation is on,” informed Girija Shankar Rath, IIC, Ranpur.
