According to sources, some officials of Kalahandi (south) forest division spotted the decomposed body of the pachyderm. A team of veterinary doctors rushed to the spot and conducted post-mortem of the elephant.
The forest officials have launched a probe to find out the cause of death. The exact reason behind death of the elephant can be ascertained after post-mortem report comes in.
A preliminary investigation suggested that the female jumbo might have died due to septicemia, forest officer of the division T Ashok Kumar expressed.
Notably, the carcass of another female elephant was found earlier in the first week of February, 2021 near Tentulikhunti forest in the Karlapat sanctuary in Kalahandi district.
On the other hand, the mysterious death of a second elephant within a short span of ten days in the sanctuary has triggered resentment among local intelligentsia and wildlife activists as well.
