Bhubaneswar: A tiffin stall owner and a customer were injured in a fight that broke out between the two over a rupee at Aiginia Square here Tuesday morning. While the customer sustained severe injuries, the vendor suffered minor bruises.
Both have lodged complaints with the Khandagiri police station in this regard.
Sources said the customer, Bharat Kumar Sethi, is a resident of Gramadi village in Chandaka police station limits here and works as a security guard in a private security firm.
Sethi, after finishing his night shift, was returning home Tuesday morning and on the way, stopped at the stall to have breakfast. He paid Rs 10 and ordered three vadas costing Rs 3 each, and asked for curry for the remaining Rs 1. However, the stall owner denied him the curry saying that they do not serve such small orders (Re 1) following which Sethi asked him to return the balance, which was also denied leading to an argument.
The verbal altercation took a violent turn when the owner’s wife allegedly assaulted Sethi with utensils.
Later, nearby shopkeepers also rushed to the stall and thrashed Sethi black and blue. They also allegedly broke his mobile phone and bicycle.
Till the last report came in, both the customer and the male shopkeeper were detained at the Khandagiri police station.
