Fire at BSNL office in Kolkata disrupts service in more than 8 states

The BSNL has crores of customers in eight northeastern states, West Bengal and Andaman and Nicobar using its various services.

Kolkata: The mobile and data services of state-run telecom company BSNL due to a fire incident at an exchange in Salt Lake in Kolkata Monday continued to be disrupted  in the eight northeastern states, West Bengal and Andaman and Nicobar, officials said Wednesday.

“A major transmission equipment was burnt after a fire broke out at the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited building in Salt Lake in Kolkata on Monday evening,” a senior BSNL official in Agartala said requesting anonymity.

He said that due to the fire and burning of the vital transmission equipment, the mobile and data services of the BSNL continue to disrupt in the eight northeastern states, West Bengal and Andaman and Nicobar.

“The engineers are working on a war-footing manner to restore the services at the earliest. The BSNL authority has regretted to the customers in the region due to the inconvenience,” the official added.
