Bhubaneswar: A massive fire broke out at the Apollo Hospital here today. No casualty or injury was reported in the incident as the patients were immediately shifted to ground floor of the hospital following the mishap. The exact cause behind the mishap is yet to be ascertained.
Sources said a fire erupted in the battery room near an ICU on the fifth floor of the premier hospital at around 10 AM.
“Around 20 patients have been rescued and shifted to ground floor through stretchers. Short circuit is suspected to be the cause behind the fire,” said a staff of the hospital.
On receiving information, a firefighting team reached the spot and doused the flames with the help of the hospital staff.
After getting information, Police Commissioner Satyajit Mohanty reached the spot and took stock of the situation.
“The situation is under control now. All the patients have been shifted from the fifth floor. Window glasses were broken to evacuate the smoke. No patient has been affected due to the smoke,” he said.
He said it will be examined whether the hospital authorities conduct regular fire audits and pay attention for safety of the patients.
