Bolangir, July 10: Seven persons, including four children, sustained serious injuries in a fire which broke out due to leakage from an LPG cylinder in a residence at Laxminagarpada here Friday.
The injured were rushed to the district headquarters hospital. However, three children were referred to Burla-based VSS Medical College and Hospital after their condition deteriorated.
Sources said the incident occurred when Shanti Negi (60) was cooking in the kitchen in the morning. As soon as she lit up a match stick, the entire room caught fire due to leakage of gas from the LPG cylinder. Shanti, her daughter-in-law Rajani Negi (30), son-in-law Abhimanyu Patra (40) and four children, who were present there, sustained severe burns. Hearing the victims scream, other family members and neighbours rushed to the spot and rescued them. After preliminary treatment, the doctors referred three children, Karuna, Siri and Raju, who suffered 70 per cent burn injuries, to the Burla hospital. The condition of another child, Sanju (10), is also stated to be critical.
Local police station IIC and officials of the district children protection unit went to the hospital and recorded the statements of the victims.
