Fire guts house, property worth lakhs at Brahmagiri

Brahmagiri: Property worth lakhs of rupees were reduced to cinder in a fire that broke out at a house at Gaudakera village here late Saturday.

Dayanighi Rana, the house owner, claimed that the blaze, which engulfed four rooms of his house, reduced household articles worth Rs 4 lakh to ashes. “Apart from ornaments, household durables, ornaments and Rs 30,000 in cash were reduced to ashes,” Rana rued.

Fire brigade officials said although they are yet to establish the exact cause of the inferno, they suspect electric short-circuit could have triggered the blaze. The exact extent of loss is yet to be ascertained, they said.

Sources said it was around 2am when neighbours spotted thick smoke billowing from the house and informed the fire brigade officials.  “By the time fire fighters reached the spot, assets worth lakhs of rupees were reduced to cinders,” said a neighbour, adding, that now the Ranas were left with virtually nothing.

Khuntuni fire

A massive fire at Chhotiamba village, in Athgarh block, destroyed Purnanand Barik’s two-room house, Sunday afternoon. Various household articles and ornaments were lost in the mishap.

According to sources, the fire started around noon. The residents of the village attempted containing the fire and alerted the local fire fighting team. Later, the fire fighting team reached the village and doused the flames. Electric short circuit was suspected as the cause of incident.

Meanwhile, Gurudijhatia sarpanch, Pragyanshu Mahapatra, asked the revenue inspector to conduct an estimation of the losses.
