Berhampur: Passengers of an express train escaped a major fire mishap which was averted in time at Berhampur railway station Thursday morning.
According to sources, the 22604 Villupuram-Kharagpur Express was on the way to Kharagpur when some passengers noticed smoke billowing out from under the S-3 coach after it arrived at the Berhampur railway station at about 10.30 am.
Following information, the railway staffs immediately swung into action and inspected the coach and found that the smoke was coming out of the battery box. The battery was later removed.
The train, which was detained at the railway station for about 40 minutes, later left for its destination.
