Dharakote: Eight families were rendered homeless while properties worth lakhs were destroyed after fourteen rooms were destroyed in a fire at Majhisahi in Saradhapur village under this block in Ganjam district Tuesday.
The affected persons were identified as Kamal Lochan Pradhan, Rama Chandra Pradhan, Haris Chandra Pradhan, Hari Pradhan, Kabiraj Pradhan, Jatia Pradhan, Rabi Goud and Pitabas Goud.
A team of Dharakote fire personnel led by their officer Binod Rout reached the spot and doused the fire after struggling for over two hours.
Tehsildar Gadadhar Patra also reached the spot and directed his officials to provide food, polythene and other assistance to the affected families for five days. He also assured them of providing all assistance as per government norms.
Villagers have demanded immediate financial assistance to the affected families.
