Fire services officer arrested for taking bribe

Bhadrak: Assistant fire officer of Bhadrak Sangram Kumar Hansda was caught red handed while taking bribe of Rs 2000 Thursday. The vigilance team has arrested Hansda and fireman Bibhu Prasad Jena in connection with the incident.

Tons of bleaching powder and lime were destroyed after an explosion due to a fire mishap that had occurred at a godown on the premises of RMC market complex in front of rural area police station June 4.

The fire was tactfully doused by the Fire services personnel from Bhadrak.

The onus of estimating the loss and damage caused by the mishap was on the assistant fire officer.  He was taking a gratification of Rs 2000 from Sheikh Abdul Majid, the accountant of the godown owner, in the office of fire station Thursday evening to modify his report.

However, the vigilance team caught him red handed. That said, the raiding team had to do a lot exercises to recover the chemical laced money as fireman Bibhu Prasad had immediately hidden the money in an almirah.

Bhadrak vigilance DSP Sanjay Kumar Das Mohapatra, Balasore DSP DC Murmu, inspector Anirudha Nayak and Sunil Ekka were part of the raiding team.
