Firing in broad day light leaves man, son critical

Jeypore: Miscreants Tuesday opened fire at a man and his son in broad day light at Rajanahar Chhak, a crowded intersection in this town leaving them critically injured.

The two victims, identified as Narendra and his son Santosh Nayak (26), were first rushed to the district headquarters hospital (DHH) and later shifted to the Saheed Laxman Nayak Medical College and Hospital in critical conditions.

While the traders downed their shutters apprehending trouble after the incident, a police team comprising ASP VR Rao, SDPO Pratyush Dibakar, Town IIC Baleswar Gidhi and others began a probe into the incident. Police have seized two cartridges, a pistol and a bike from the spot.

The incident is said to be the fallout of past enmity between two families.

According to reports, eight bike-borne miscreants waylaid Narendra and his son, who were also on a bike. The attackers suddenly fired at the father-son duo at Rajanahar Chhak. While a bullet hit Santosh’s back, Narendra escaped the narrowly. However, the attackers assaulted Narendra with a stone inuring him critically.

Though hundreds of people gathered at the spot hearing gun-fire, the miscreants managed to flee.

It may be recalled that a group of youth Monday attacked Jeypore town BYJD president Bikash Patra at Madalasahi Chhak. Critically injured Bikash, with deep wound on his face and head, was admitted to the district headquarters hospital. Former minister Rabi Narayan Nanda went to the hospital to enquire about Bikash’s health condition.

Bikash and his associates are involved in the attack on him and his son, said Narendra to the media.
