Bhubaneswar: State forest and environment minister Bijayshree Routray Wednesday said that many enterprises have started manufacturing alternatives to plastic due to the proposed plastic ban in the state.
The minister was responding to a question about the state government’s plan for alternatives to plastic. The issue was raised in the state assembly through an unstarred question. The minister’s response was tabled in the form of a written statement.
In the written reply the minister said, “Odisha government has decided to restrict the use of plastic/polythene and thermo cool. In the first phase, the restriction will be imposed in five municipal corporations of Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Berhampur, Sambalpur and Rourkela. Puri will come under its purview October 2, 2018. We will be covering the whole state thereafter.”
He also added, “Many enterprises have started manufacturing various alternatives to plastic.”
