Fish deaths trigger panic among locals

Paradip: Panic gripped the locals of Paradip as hundreds of fish were found dead and floating in the Sahara Matsyadia river Tuesday morning. Though the exact cause of the mass death of the fishes is yet to be ascertained, locals presume that the polluted water and lack of oxygen must have led to their deaths.

They even allege the waste from the nearby fertilizer factory must have dumped wastes in the river causing the mass deaths of the fishes.

Meanwhile, the stench of the dead fish has become unbearable for the people residing nearby. A team of Odisha State Pollution Control Board is yet to reach the spot to collect water sample and dead fish for tests.

A similar incident was reported from Bata river of Paradip in April where thousands of dead fish were found floating, polluted water being the cause of their deaths.
