Krushnaprasad/Bramhagiri, Dec 26: Barely a month since a giant sperm whale beached at Astaranga shore and died, the carcass of another whale was spotted by local fishermen on the Bay of Bengal coast near Gouda Nuagaon of Nuapada range in Puri district late Thursday night.
People thronged the spot Friday morning as the news spread. The 32-ft mammal weighing about eight tonnes with 20 ft circumference was seen bleeding, sources said. However, details about the species of the whale was yet to be known, Balugaon divisional forest officer said.
The injured whale beached Thursday evening, local sarpanch Matrubhumi Pradhan said. Earlier, a 32-feet whale beached in the first week of December near Astaranga and died. Later, a team from Regional Museum of Natural History of Bhubaneswar went to the site to retrieve the skeleton.
