Five bargirls rescued from dance bar

Bhubaneswar:  Commissionerate Police late Saturday night rescued as many as five bargirls and seized the music systems of a dance bar that comes under Laxmisagar police limits in Bhubaneswar.

According to Laxmisagar police station IIC Dayanidhi Sahu, acting on a tip-off, a team of Laxmisagar police conducted a raid on the bar and rescued the girls.

The girls are being quizzed at the police station and their identities are being verified, Sahu added.

According to guidelines, bars that employ women must obtain the approval of the state Excise Department. The law allows the cops to conduct intermittent checks to ensure that the guidelines are being adhered to.

This raid comes amidst a crackdown by the cops on illegal dance bars. Most of these watering holes are located along the Cuttack road and especially in and around Laxmisagar area.

It may be mentioned here that back in July 26, 2019, the cops conducted a raid at 10 bars in Laxmisagar and had rescued 96 bar girls. Allegedly, the girls present at the bar were dancing provocatively. That said, despite several raids, many of the illegal bars continue to flourish in the area.
