Thakuramunda: Bears have unleashed a reign of terror in Satakosia forest range of Mayurbhanj district with five people critically injured in their attacks in the village, Thursday.
The victims were identified as Gura Purta, Mangulu Sundi, Jagabandhu Purta, Sangi Purta and Patara Purta. The health condition of Gura and Mangulu was critical as they suffered the worst injuries. This incident occurred at Mahuladiha panchayat under Satakosia forest range in Mayurbhanj district.
According to forest officials, Mangulu was nearby the forest when the bear attacked them. When local villagers came to their rescue, the wild animal had already mauled them. They sustained injuries on their hands, legs and chest.
The five victims were rescued by other villagers and were rushed to the Thakuramunda Heath Care hospital for treatment.
The incident has left people in the village panicked as bear attacks have become increasingly regular lately.
The officials have started an investigation into the matter.
