Five dreaded robbers held in City

Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police Sunday arrested five dreaded robbers who were involved in several looting cases in the Jatni Police station area here. The field agents of various financial institutions were their main targets.  The accused have been identified as Sk Ajim Uddin,34,of Balia Chowk in Madina Sahi area, Rehmat Sharif alias Kadir and Abdul Wasim Khan of Gajapati Nagar in Masjid Chowk area under Jatni police station limits , Sk Farukh alias Munu and Sk Ansar alias Kuna of Dhikhitpada under Tangi police station limits.

The accused looted around Rs 4 lakhs from three field level officers of two financial institutions in Jatni area in three different incidents. Ajim, Rehmat, Ansar and Wasim looted Rs 97,715  from Bikash Kumar Mohapatra, the financial executive of a micro finance firm named Bharat Finance at gun point in broad day light November 16. Mohapatra was returning to office after collecting money from various women self help groups in Gajapati nagar area. They also severely assaulted him with sharp weapons and snatched away his bag containing a Samsung tablet and some very important documents.

Similarly, the accused persons along with Farukh looted 1, 41,830 from the field executive of Bandhan Bank, Biplab Kumar Das on his way to the bank after the collection of money from various debtors near Bali Chaka Sahi in Jatni November 9. Earlier, they had robbed 1.50 lakh from the branch manager and the field executive of another micro finance firm May 24, 2017.

Police seized cash Rs 22,000, Samsung tablet and several weapons like knife and chopper that were used during the robbery. Interestingly, one toy pistol has been seized from the possession of the accused persons.

A dozen cases have been pending against the accused persons at other police stations in Khurda as well. The accused persons were sent to judicial custody after being produced before the court Sunday.
