Five injured as car crashes into tree in Gop

Gop: Five tourists were injured after the car they were traveling in veered off the road and crashed into a roadside tree near Junei area on Gop-Konark road in Puri district Thursday morning. Three of them are said to have sustained serious injuries.

The grievously injured patients have been identified as Santosh Kumar Nayak (32), Jagannath Nayak (30) and seven years old Siddhishree Nayak. The other two are Smrutirekha Behera and Subhasmita Nayak.

Local residents rushed to the rescue of the injured tourists and admitted them at Gop government hospital. However, the seriously injured ones have been shifted to Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar.

Local people ascribed the mishap to the driver being absentminded.

Sources said, nearly 15 members of a family from Gandakura village in Bhadrak district were going to Konark in two cars when one of the vehicles met with the accident.

On being informed police reached the spot, seized the vehicle and launched an investigation.
