Barang: Police Sunday claimed to have busted a bike lifters’ gang with the arrest of five members of the group late Saturday.
The accused were identified as Dipu Pingua of Ramathenga in Kalinga Nagar police limits of Jajpur, Saroj Das of Nagespur in Kishannagar police limits, and Amir Nayak of Torala village, Ashok Sahoo of OCA Colony and Krushna Chandra Nayak of Najarpur village in Jagatpur police limits.
“We have seized four stolen motorcycles and 16 cell phones from their possession. A case (99/18) has been registered under several Sections of IPC and the accused were produced in a court,” Barang police said.
The police crackdown came when they were investigating into a bike lifting case here. “Madhusudhan Sahoo, a resident of Dadhapatna had approached us June 3 alleging that his motorcycle (OD-33-Q-7784) had gone missing from near the Puri canal here,” said a police officer.
Police said Dipu and Saroj were caught with Sahoo’s motorcycle during a surprise check near Barang police station late Saturday night. “When our patrol team asked them for the relevant papers of the bike, they failed to produce them. During interrogation, they confessed to have stolen the bike and hinted at other members of their gang,” the officer added. Later, police raided the hideouts of Amir, Ashok and Krushna and arrested them with three motorcycles stolen from Cuttack, the police said.
