Rayagada: A five-year-old boy was charred to death inside a grocery shop at Indrapada village near Muniguda in Rayagada district Saturday evening.
The incident occurred while the boy was alone in the shop. A sudden fire broke out in the shop, critically injuring the boy who sustained 70 per cent burn injuries.
Short-circuit might be the reason for the fire but the exact reason is yet to be ascertained, reports said.
Local residents doused the flames and was rushed the boy to a local hospital for first aid. He was then admitted to Bissamcuttack government hospital from where he was shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur.
However, the boy succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.
The police have started an investigation into the incident.
