Bhubaneswar, June 11: Top seed Smaraki Mohanty of KIIT outwitted fifth seed Krushna Mishra of the same institution in the sixth and concluding round to emerge champion in the Nalinikanta Mohanty Memorial Fide Rating Orissa State Women’s chess tournament at DS Law College in Kendrapara, Thursday. She won all her matches to finish with six points.
WFM Rutumbara Bidhar secured second position with five points. Third seed Rutumbara got the better of sixth seed Gitashree Biswal. Fourth seed Akankhya Kabi of Khurda finished third with 4.5 points. She prevailed over seventh seed Shreejita Khuntia. Eighth seed Anuksha Mohanty of Puri finished fourth.
Karate Championship
Utkal Karate School and Sukokai Karate Do Union of India will jointly organise the VIth All India Open Karate Championship at the Utkal Karate School premises here June 12-14. Approximately 500 karetekas and officials across the country will take part in this competition.
Official elected
Bijay Kumar Rout of Orissa was elected as the joint secretary of Cycling Federation of India during the AGM June 6 at New Delhi. He has been the secretary of Orissa Cycling Association since 1979. He was also a silver medal winner at the 1970 national championships.
