Floodwater flows 4 feet above National Highway

Kalimela/MV-79: Incessant rain that battered Kalimela block of Malkangiri district since Thursday has created a flood-like situation in the region.

Civic life was paralysed as rain water flew four feet above  Malkangiri-Motu National Highway at MV-96 bridge. As a result, the road connection between Malkangiri and Motu was completely cut off and vehicular movement from Kalimela to MV-79 and Motu areas has stopped.

The precarious condition started after 12 noon. Many vehicles were  stranded on both sides of the bridge. The water level in various water bodies including rivers has drastically gone up.

Furthermore, rain water submerged many of the farmlands. Kalimela had recorded a rainfall of 99 mm Thursday and it is said to have faced flood situation for six times this monsoon.

It is said as bridges at Poteru, Kangurukonda, MV-90, MV-96 and Kanyashram are of low height, a slight shower in the area leads to a flood-like situation with road communication being cut off.
