Local farmers had been facing a drought-like situation earlier. Hundreds of acres of farmlands have been submerged in rainwater in Bhadrak district owing to flood. Basudevpur block has recorded a rainfall of 117mm during the past 24 hours.
Floodwater has affected Sahada area of Bhadrak block, Padmapur, Sugo, Edatala, Lunga, Jagannathprasad areas of Basudevpur block including Guagaon, Bishnubindha, Kalasia, Jakhipur, Pata villages.
According to locals floodwater of about two to three feet high flows above farmlands here. As the rain continues, water level is unlikely to recede within the coming week. This situation could give rise to seedlings getting wasted, thereby badly affecting farming activities.
“It is going to be a double whammy for us. We will be able to manage the situation on our own,” a local farmer lamented.
