Bhubaneswar, Dec 24: Dense fog in the national capital Wednesday continued to leave passengers in the lurch in Bhubaneswar as air and rail services were crippled almost throughout the day.
Low cost carrier IndiGo had to cancel its flight 6E 341 from New Delhi to Bhubaneswar because of low visibility caused by dense fog in the national capital.
Another flight of the same route, 6E 259, got delayed by half an hour. The flight landed at Biju Patnaik International Airport at 6.50pm instead of the schedule time of 6.26pm Wednesday.
The IndiGo flight 6E 253 from New Delhi-Bhubaneswar was delayed by two-and-a-half hours and landed at the city airport at 11.30am instead of 9am.
Delhi-bound passengers are having a tough time because of the delays that have forced several airlines to cancel and reschedule flights on key routes. Six daily New Delhi-bound flights are operating from Biju Patnaik International Airport.
Passengers travelling on Air India’s AI 878 service continued to have a harrowing experience as the flight was delayed by more than three-and-a-half hours. Wednesday was the fourth consecutive day that flight AI 878 was delayed — first because of technical reasons Sunday and then because of the dense fog in New Delhi.
The flight, with more than 100 passengers, took off from Biju Patnaik International Airport at 1.10pm instead of the scheduled time of 9.40am. GoAir’s flight G8 161 was delayed also by half-an-hour.
Rail services were also severely affected by the fog. The New Delhi-Bhubaneswar Rajdhani was running 10 hours behind schedule. The train was supposed to arrive at Bhubaneswar at 5.30pm Wednesday but, according to the national train enquiry system website, is expected to reach the state capital at 3.27am Thursday.
The New Delhi-Bhubaneswar Purushottam Express was delayed by about 18 hours.
It was expected to reach the city at 9.22pm instead of the schedule time of 3.35am.
Many other trains were running late by several hours because of the dense fog in the northern parts of the country.
