Angul: Pulses, milk products and chilli powder were found adulterated when samples collected from 22 locations in Angul were analysed Friday. Some more food products have been sent for laboratory tests, officers said.
It has been alleged that food adulteration is rampant in Angul town. Bowing to the demands for an inspection, food samples collected from various hotels and grocery shops were sent to a mobile food testing laboratory.
First, pulses, milk products, oil and spices were tested and they were found to be adulterated. “We are going to conduct similar raids in areas like Talcher, Athmallik and Pallahara,” said district public health officer Rakesh Kumar Sahu.
Following directions from the state government and the chief district medical officer, a team comprising sanitation invigilator Subash Chandra Behera, food safety officer Rashmita Behera, state assistant analytical chemist Patitapaban Mohapatra and Pramod Nayak conducted the raids.
Mohapatra has sent the test report of pulses, milk, milk products and red chilli powder to the state food safety officer and Angul public health officer.
“We are in a fix choosing what to buy, what not to buy, what to eat and what not to eat,” said some consumers after learning about rampant adulteration of food stuff.
