Forensic team starts probe into double murder

Chandbali: A three-member scientific team has started an investigation into the murder of a couple and the brutal attack on their daughter over a failed love affair and past enmity at Malabada in Mato panchayat under Chandbali police limits in Bhadrak Thursday.

The main accused of the double murder, Trilochan, was arrested and his father and mother are being interrogated.

Police seized the blunt wooden object with which the murder was executed. Preliminary investigation revealed that the murder was the outcome of a failed love and revenge.

After the murder, Bhaban, the father of the accused, bolted himself inside his house and his house was broken open in the presence of magistrate Satyajit Mohanty at midnight.

The deceased were identified as Sudhakar Biswal and wife Saraswati Biswal. Their daughter Ranju Biswal is critical.

Sudhakar and Bhaban were neighbours. Trilochan had wanted to marry the daughter of Sudhakar. But Sudhakar arranged the marriage of his daughter elsewhere.

Trilochan was offended and wanted to take revenge. Police said Trilochan had a quarrel with his mother and rushed out of the house. When he saw Sudhakar in front of him he impulsively attacked him with a wooden plank.

When Sudhakar fell down and screamed for help his wife Saraswati and daughter Ranjita rushed out of the house to his rescue. The two were also attacked and left critical.

Saraswati died on the spot while Sudhakar died later in hospital. Ranjita was shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack. Her condition is stated to be critical.

Police said Sudhakar’s family had filed a complaint at Chandbali police station against Trilochan a year ago. The two families had a bitter dispute over the mortgage of a gold chain.
