Former Odisha lawmaker, seafood firm under I-T scanner

Bhubaneswar/Joda: The Income Tax (I-T) Department officials Thursday launched simultaneous raids at several properties linked to former Champua MLA Jitu Patnaik in Keonjhar district on charges of tax evasion.

The sleuths conducted searches at the former legislator’s house near Sai temple at Joda and his office at Baneikala square.

However, no reaction from Patnaik could be obtained in this regard.

In another operation, the I-T officials raided Falcon Marine Exports Pvt Ltd and its other affiliated companies on charges of evading tax.

The officials searched the office and residential premises of the company authorities at several places.

The raid began early morning of Thursday in Bhubaneswar.

The raids were underway at nine branches of the firm in Bhubaneswar and Balasore at the time of filing this report.
