Bhubaneswar: His aggression on the field of play is well known. Virat Kohli is not known to back down from a fight. This attitude of Virat Kohli gives the wrong impression that he is an arrogant and snobbish person. However, he is just the opposite off the field, as former selector Sarandeep Singh has revealed to the ‘Sportskeeda’ website.
The captain of the Indian cricket team is known to be very animated on the field of play. He is one to always voice his thoughts come what may. So Kohli comes across as a person with a very tough image. However, those that know him vouch for his humility and humane nature. The Indian team have been quite successful under Kohli’s captaincy. They have won several series against top cricketing nations like Australia, England, South Africa, and New Zealand. In fact it was under Kohli only that India achieved their first series win in Australia in 2018.
Sarandeep during his playing career represented India in three Tests and five ODIs. He has interesting stories to narrate about the Indian captain. He has been quoted as saying that Kohli does not have servants at his house and likes to serve food to guests himself.
“At his home, there are no servants. He and his wife will serve food to everyone. What else do you want? Virat always sits with you, chats with you, and goes out for dinner with you. All the other players have so much respect for him. He’s very down-to-earth and strong-willed,” Sarandeep was quoted as saying.
“On the field, Kohli needs to be that way because he’s the captain. He’s the one who’ll handle the pressure on the ground and make decisions in the heat of the moment,” Sarandeep added.
The former selector had another interesting tale to narrate. He said Kohli’s humble nature comes across during team selection meetings. “In selection meetings, Kohli is perhaps the quietest. He is such a great cricketer already. But he gives a patient hearing to all and then takes a decision. He does so, because he is very humble. He is not always fired up as you see him on the field. He is a very good listener too,” Sarandeep opined.
