Bhubaneswar: Former director of Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR), Dr Ashwini Pujahari, joined the Congress in the presence of OPCC president Niranjan Patnaik here Sunday.
Dr Pujahari had tendered his resignation from the post February 9 citing that he had no option left.
In December last year, Pujahari had been served a show-cause notice after a video of him using unproven therapies for treatment with salt during a surgery had emerged. He had been sent on leave until further notice and he resigned after two months when there was no further development on the issue. Dr Pujahari was also in news for his sting operations.
He joined the Congress with a hope to begin his political journey ahead of the upcoming polls.
Dr Pujahari said that he had joined the party to serve the people in a bigger way. He said that during his tenure at VIMSAR he had done work on upgrading the laboratories of the institution and also implemented government schemes of free treatment of patients.
