Kendrapara: Police Tuesday arrested four persons for their alleged involvement in assaulting and critically injuring, executive officer of Golarhat grampanchayat Nihar Ranjan Thatoi under Derabish police limits in Kendrapara district.
Derabish police IIC Umakant Nayak said some people of Dumuka village stopped the executive officer near Basulai temple in Chatara chakoda while he was returning from panchayat.
Later, about seven to eight people assaulted him and injured him critically.
The assailants also allegedly looted Rs 25,000 in cash, a gold chain, a bag and government documents from his possession.
Later some people rescued Thatoi and rushed him to district headquarters hospital. He was later shifted to SCB medical college and hospital for treatment.
The police action came after Derabish BDO Gopabandhu Bhosagar lodged an FIR. Further investigation into the incident is on.
