Four held for extortion bid

Paralakhemundi: Police Sunday arrested four more persons over an alleged extortion bid on a businessman and misbehaviour with his family members near Sadar here in Gajapati district.

Earlier, the police arrested former councillor G. Bijay Kumar alias Chini, the main accused. A case has been registered and the four were produced in court. The councillor allegedly threatened businessman Sriramulu and tried to extort money from him. When the businessman refused to respond to demand for cash, Bijay along with four of his aides stormed into his house when the businessman was away and threatened his family members, as per the case.

Bijay allegedly misbehaved with his wife and mother. Acting on a complaint by Sriramulu, police arrested Bijay. The four arrests were made after interrogation of Bijay. They were Manoj Paduku of Om Shanti Colony here, Raghu Nagbansha of Ghasi Sahi, Sriram Kapur of Reli Sahi and N Bhima Rao of Kampha Sahi, stated SDPO Thakur Prasad Patra.
