Four held over dacoity plans

Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police here arrested four hoodlums for allegedly preparing to commit dacoity, under Tamando police station limits, Thursday. Three knives, one hammer, chili powder packets and mobile phones were seized from the possession of the accused, said a senior officer at the Tamando police station, adding that they have been booked under Sections 399 and 402 of IPC. IIC Tamando police station Sudhir Kumar Meher said the hoodlums were loitering near Subudhipur cricket ground a little past Wednesday midnight intending to rob motorists and heavy vehicle drivers.

They had fixed their targets on the vehicles plying from Tamando to Kalinga Nagar area, he added. Meher said during questioning, the hoodlums failed to provide satisfactory answers after a police team apprehended them near the spot. Later, during sustained questioning they disclosed about their intention to rob motorists, he added. The accused were identified as SK Rahim alias Raja, 37, Ananta Das alias Ganesh, 22, Akash Swain, 26 and Niranjan Nayak, 28. The arrested accused were produced before a local court for remand, today
