Jharigaon: Seven persons including four kids sustained injuries when the auto rickshaw they were travelling in overturned at Chandahandi ghat in Nabarangpur district Friday.
The injured have been identified as Shishir Bhatra (10), Anjana Gond (10), Yogeswari Bhatra (10), Nandini Bhatra (10), Antaram Gond (34), Chamaru Bhatra (46) and Astu Bhatra (34).
Police have rescued the injured with the help of local people and admitted them at the Jharigaon community health centre. Four of them have been shifted to Nabarangpur district headquarters hospital (DHH) as their conditions deteriorated.
Sources said, parents and their kids belonging to Siunaguda, Sanabasini and Bijaguda under Umerkote block were going to Dhadipani Sevashram for admission to class six. En route the brakes of the auto rickshaw failed near the Chandahandi ghat area and panic gripped the occupants. One of them jumped out causing the auto to lose balance and it turned turtle.
By the time the police reached the spot the driver of the auto rickshaw had decamped with the vehicle.
On being informed Jharigaon police reached the spot only to find the injured persons and children and the driver fleeing the spot with the auto.
Further investigation is on.
