Bhubaneswar: In a bid to speed up disposal of applications for issuance of driving licences in Capital city and its periphery, state government has decided to open four new centres to facilitate DL applicants in Bhubaneswar and Khurda.
“We will open four more centres to facilitate issuance of driving licences. Three additional centres will be set up in Bhubaneswar apart from RTO-1 and RTO-2 while one more centre will come up in Khurda”, Transport Secretary G Srinivas told reporters here, Friday.
Meanwhile, Transport Commissioner Sanjeeb Panda has asked all Regional Transport Officers (RTOs) to enhance the number of slots for both Learner’s licence (LL) and Driving licence (DL) tests.
“It has been brought to our notice that there has been chaos in RTO offices after the implementation of the amended Motor Vehicle Act, 1988. The overcrowding is due to the limited slots available for LL and DL applicants,” Panda said in his letter to RTOs.
To overcome the situation and provide speedy service to the public, the transport commissioner asked the RTOs to enhance the number of slots available for LL and DL tests. He also instructed to install extra computers for LL test and also allow the applicants to appear for the tests in the vacant slot where the allotted applicants are absent.
Following the earlier decision of the government, Panda further instructed the RTOs to keep offices open on all government holidays to help the public. “Any deviation to this effect shall be seriously viewed,” he warned.
