Four Nayagarh villages suffer in darkness

Daspalla: Four villages of Nuagaon panchayat under Daspalla block of Nayagarh district are yet to be electrified even though the necessary infrastructure is already in place since last seven months.

According to locals, these four tribal dominated villages — Saladajhola, Bankasahi, Duarisahi and Bhogobadi – are being neglected by local electricity office staff despite being reminded repeatedly.

The villagers of these hamlets have made several attempts in the past to bring electricity to this area where about 50 families live. After several attempts, a transformer and electric poles were set up about seven months back. That said, the lines are yet to be charged.

“The Energy Department employees have gone on to set up metres in many households in these villagers. All other necessary infrastructure is also in place. However, the department employees here have turned a deaf ear to the requests of the villagers owing to laxity,” rued former Zilla Parishad member Kishore Dalabehera.

When contacted about the issue, the Junior Engineer in-charge of the area said, “Our department will soon resume power supply to the villages after holding discussions with NTPC administration.”
