Cuttack: One more critical Covid-19 patient under Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) support at SCB Medical College and Hospital (SCBMCH) in Cuttack died late Wednesday night.
After this fatality, death tally of patients under ECMO reached four.
According to an official in SCBMCH, the patient was identified as Annapurna Nayak from Nischintakoili area in Cuttack. The female patient had previously developed acute lungs infection. She was admitted to the government-run health facility August 29.

Annapurna was the first patient at SCBMCH shifted to the ECMO unit from Covid-19 ward after she developed severe complications.
SCBMCH presently has no patient kept under ECMO support. Three critical patients who were shifted from Bolangir, Kendrapara and Bhubaneswar Covid hospitals have died in the meanwhile.
It is pertinent to mention, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had launched a dedicated ECMO facility at the SCBMCH August 27 to provide free ECMO treatment. Nine such machines were installed at a time.
A patient from Pattamundai area in Kendrapara district had also died during ECMO treatment at SCBMCH Saturday night. He was earlier admitted for treatment August 29. The patient was then shifted from Covid-19 ward of SCBMCH to its Cardiothoracic Department.
