Fraudster Golden Baba lands in jail

Bhubaneswar: A self-styled godman well known as ‘Golden Baba’ alias Jyoti Ranjan Beura was arrested for allegedly duping people and several companies promising them to sanction loans from finance companies. Police had launched a manhunt to nab the Baba who was absconding for many days.

He was arrested Monday by Chandrasekharpur Police from Bhubaneswar. He has been booked and forwarded to court under sections 467, 468, 471, 420 and 511 of the IPC.

According to reports, seven cases have been registered against Golden Baba. After luring a mining company named MS National Enterprises to sanction a loan of Rs 110 crores, he had taken 12 cheques with a value of Rs 12.4 crores each from them.

Before the mentioned date, he allegedly changed the date and withdrew cash from the concerned bank. The bank staffs who smelt something fishy, informed the company that a Baba is withdrawing huge amount of cash regularly. After getting the information, the mining company lodged a complaint with Chandrasekharpur police.

When the self-proclaimed godman came to know that a police complaint has been lodged against him, he fled the spot and went to Delhi. Police officials had kept a close watch on his movements and when he returned to his house at Kalaranga, a raid was conducted and he was nabbed Monday. He owns four costly cars and two lavish houses. After searching both the houses, police extracted much vital information from him during interrogation. It was also learnt that he has links with many powerful people and politicians.

Many complaints are still being lodged against Golden Baba, said a police official.
