Bhubaneswar, May 26: Orissa POST and Dharitri together launched a free water-dispensing service in the city Tuesday to provide relief to parched citizens during the summer.
The two portable water kiosks were launched opposite Axis Bank in Satyanagar and near the traffic police station outside the Secretariat in the city.
Health and family welfare minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak formally inaugurated the water truck near the Secretariat while Mayor Ananta Narayan Jena inaugurated the one in Satyanagar in the presence of Editor of OP and Dharitri Tathagata Satpathy, MP.
“Water-dispensing trucks are the need of the hour. During summer it is essential to stay hydrated always, especially for commuters, and such water trucks will undoubtedly be a boon for them,” said minister Atanu Sabyasachi.
“This facility will not only be of immense help for commuters but will also bring much-needed relief for shopkeepers in the area,” Mayor Jena said.
Sangeet, who was one of the first persons to drink a glass of water from the truck near the Secretariat, said there can be nothing more soothing to a thirsty person on a hot summer day than a glass of pure, cold water.
Biswajeet was among the ones who lined up to quench their thirst at the Satyanagar kiosk. “At times when the mercury crosses 40°C and we have to step out for some work, we get thirsty very quickly but we cannot find free, clean water anywhere. Such a service would surely be of immense relief to citizens,” said Biswajeet.
Launched on Tata Ace vehicles, these refrigerated trucks were fitted out in New Delhi and are the first-of-their kind in the state.
