Aradi: After three days of incessant rainfall, river Baitarani has flooded 45 villages in Aradi, Sundarpur, Nandapur and Olga under Chandbali block, Palasahi and Raipur under Dhamnagar block and Shyamsundarpur panchayat under Tihidi block in Bhadrak district.
These areas were flooded by the river two weeks ago. The water had started receding Saturday, but the river overflowed again Sunday at Sathibankuda. Besides, water level in Salandi, Reba and Kapali rivers has gone up.
Farmers were worried over the water logging while all their hopes of saving their crops have vanished.
A patch of 30ft of the NH-20 between Sathibankuda and Bodak had caved in during the last floods. Sadly, the portion has not been repaired as yet.
As a result, bus service and vehicular movement from Aradi to Jajpur, Cuttack and Bhubaneswar has stopped.
Several areas under Basta block in Balasore were flooded Saturday due to floods in Jalaka river. Communication to some areas is yet to be restored. Gandhi Chhak-Baliapal road was under water.
Crops in thousands of hectares of farmland, which were under floodwater, are likely to perish at Paikapada, Jantikapal, Dudhahansa, Jaypur, Sunderhanta, Nlabahar, Gothagadia, Dandika, Palasia, Gahirasimulia, Kundei, Kadalihanda, Palasia, Basukubarai, Dhobakubarai and Jamunapada.
